Hi! Japanese Illustrator Mom, Koko here.
Do you know Car Painting!?
No no, it’s not about you paint a car. 😉
Z came up with this wonderful, fun idea!! SO I’d love , love, love to share with you.
This activity is perfect for –
-Kids especially who likes cars
-Indoor activity for winter, rainy, or too hot days
-Developing a skill of think out of box – use unusual tools for play
What is Car Painting?
Simply – it’s a painting activity with a car!
It’s a lot of fun and again, perfect for preschooler Winter or Raine, Indoor Activity, especially if your kids like cars.😀
I will explain more details. Keep scrolling.
How to Prepare and How to Play Car Painting?
You Need only 3 things:
|-1 Miniature Car (that kids are okay if it breaks)
-Watercolor Painting ( I recommend Tube type, so you can control how much to use.)
How to Play
Step 1. Let your kid make painting ready. Many kids love mixing stuff (Have you noticed?!) so it’s already fun to mix water and paint. Let him/her choose what colors to use.
Step 2. Let him paint wheels on a car. Lots of paint is better.
Like this – lots of paint! This way, it will last to paint on a paper.
Step 3. Let’s drive!!
Don’t go too fast in the beginning. Start slow, then he can speed up!
Step 4. See? This is a car painting! You can drifting a car to make a funky path
It will be even more fun to try with a tractor! They usually have a funky patterns on wheels.
I don’t think the car is going to break – in fact, Z is still playing with it afterwards. However, do use a car that your kids won’t mind if it breaks. You need to wash paint after the play, so I recommend no electric cars to use.
How we started Car Painting – where ideas come from?
Ideas come from your kids!!!!!!
This is how we started:
We were just painting normally, at first.
Since I am an illustrator, I draw what Z wants.
“mama, I want a car!” – ok! Here’s police car!
“mama, Can you draw a Monster?” – okay! I tried to draw a Dragon and weird monster 😅 here it goes!
(Btw, does anybody want these Monster coloring pages?? If so let me know, I can create digital versions!)
Then, Z started saying… ( in Japanese)
“Mama, can I have a car?”
I was confused.
I had to ask him many times, cars, like with four wheels and go fast? Z nods.
I didn’t understand first…. so I just let him do it. Z taught me of how to think out of box, that you don’t have to use brush to paint with 😆
This is something I learn…. When kids have some ideas lets them do it! You will be amazed how creative kids can be 🤩
Another Painting Activity Idea
Other than painting normally, you can paint on kids!! This was fun, too. We did this after Car Painting.
Super Tips for Car Paint Activity
Use an old sock (washed) as drying cloth!
Look at this picture below. Socks are easily get worn out, but don’t throw away! I wash them and keep them in a closet.
Those socks are perfect for whatever you need with cleaning or activity! Seriously… especially, a lot of socks are made with cottons, they soak up water very well.
Make sure they are washed though, even though old or broken. 😉
Put on Craft Apron!
Well, this is not a secret but … make sure you put art smock on a kid. Painting in general is a messy activity!
Thank you for reading! If you tried this activity, do share a photos with me – I appreciate it 😄
I hope this post made you inspired.
Please share it on Pinterest and other Social Media if you like it.
Thank you 😀
