How old is safe for kids to eat raw-fish?
That’s a good question.
I looked into Japanese websites for the info, but I couldn’t find an exact answer.
It depends on kids and parents, some kids start to eat raw fish after age 2. (slowly, small portion.)
Most start around age 4-5.
Z had eaten some raw fish after age 3, he loved it!
He loved salmon and Ebi (shrimps) especially.
But I try not to give him too much of raw fish, in case of upsetting stomach or allergy, who knows.
But you know what? Sushi doesn’t have to be always raw fish !
What do I mean by that is…. continue to read:

Try & discover what goes well and make special version!
There is no rule to be creative 🤗
Make kid-friendly sized sushi (mini sushi)
Simply use half size of seaweed.
Before roll sushi, I cut the whole seaweed in half size.
Put rice accordingly and tuna and roll up with bamboo sushi roller.
Don’t put too much rice and tuna, it will be difficult to roll obviously.
Minion Sushi Bento Lunch box decoration Tips
Put Minion on top of sushi as a biggest kick!
His body is made with fried egg, seaweed and cheese.
For his face parts, I used seaweed cutter.
This is one of a must-item if you want to make creative bento!
Seaweed Nori cutter
Apples: give some patterns on its skin.
Star shaped carrots : add this vivid orange colour to ‘bright up’ your bento!
It was a biiiig hit at Z’s kindergarten.
Teachers even took some pics of this bento, and all the kids were looking at his bento with curiosity.
Kids chopstick recommendation
If you’re interested in teaching kids how to use chopsticks, try Edison chopsticks.
Z has been using since he was about 3 year old, they are very easy to use!
Z enjoys using them and very good at picking up food.
They have for right handed or left handed, so make sure which one to buy when you order.
Karaage Chicken Recipe
I’ve got some request to share Karaage Chicken Recipes,
so here I’d like to share🤤
Karaage Chicken is one of the most delicious Japanese recipes, that
EVERYBODY falls in love. It’s specially marinated deep fried chicken.
<< Ingredients >> 2 people
Chicken – you want to use thigh with SKIN on. Skin is important that makes it extra crunch and crispy texture! I usually use drumstick chicken, as they are easy to ‘work’ with. But you can try chicken thighs. It’s a bit more tricky to debone it but as long as there is skin on, it’s good to go.
Grated garlic (grated )3~4 cloves
Grated ginger (grated) 1cm
4 tablespoon Sake
3 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1/2 tablespoon Mirin – Japanese sweeten rice wine.
3 tablespoon flour
3 tablespoon potato starch
- Cube cut chicken, place them into marinade sauce.
- Mix flour and potato starch into the sauce
===== wait & marinate for at least 20 mins =========
Deep fry chicken. 180 °C
Don’t fry with high heat – it will burn chicken. Or not too low. You just have to find a perfect temperature that works best for your kitchen stove…!
