Origami in my life as I grew up in Japan
Just a little history of my experience with Origami, as I grew up in Japan.
Origami is a big part of everybody, every kids’ life in Japan.
I remember we were making Origami in kindergarten.
I remember my grandmother taught me how to make a crane.
Origami is believed that it’s a good activity for kids and elder people, because they use fingers and that stimulates brains.
Origami, that comes from 2 words in Japanese
– ORI=Folding, Kami=Paper.
Origami in Denmark
Only several years ago it was difficult to find Origami papers in Denmark, where I live.
But nowadays you can buy at some major Danish stores with affordable price, which makes me easier to make some activities with Z! Pretty sweet.
Here is what we’re going to make!
Lime ice cream and strawberry & chocolate ice cream.
Here I made the ice cream holder – with toilet rolls. (don’t we all have so many of them?)
Targeted age for this activity
For toddler maybe it’s too difficult to fold origami papers. That case you can prepare and fold origami for them.
But let your kids choose the color of the paper, and maybe kids can design own ice cream. (with your help.)
Afterwards you can play Ice Cream shop, that’s something toddlers can do 🙂
+Origami Paper <—This one has 120 papers / 40 colors!
+Toilet Paper rolls ( 1 per / 1 ice cream.)
Here I took a photo of step-by-step!
Fold it to triangle.
Fold the both side corners towards top.
Then open it,
Fold the corner-point to the center.
Do the same on the other corner.
Then fold down the top-triangle.
Here is a bit tricky,
but you want to put the corner into the “bag” – use the line that we already made before,
it will help to fold inside smoothly.
Do the other side as well
Making Ice Cream
Now you insert another origami paper like this, then simply out-line ice cream.
Let your kid choose the color or shape, maybe you can make super funky ice cream!!
Making Ice Cream holder
Wrap Washi tape around the toilet tube as a nice decoration.
Let kids choose which washi tape…let them decorate 😊
Then add 2 cuts on both sides.
You can play Shopping now, and toilet paper rolls are actually perfect size for kids to hold.
